Job Title: Java Developer

Location: Austin, Texas

General Summary of Duties: This individual will be responsible for the design and implementation of Java software applications that perform various activities related to extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of XML data.
Supervision Received: Reports to the CTO and VP, Engineering.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and implement Java software components based on functional specifications and requirements.
  • Apply leading-edge technologies to design, develop, test and maintain applications.
  • Follow approved life cycle methodologies, including the creation of design documentation, adherence to coding standards, and application of unit and system tests.
  • Interface with client-facing implementation team to define integration requirements and produce optimal solutions quickly and efficiently.
  • Education: BS in computer science, or equivalent education and experience.

Experience/Skills:

  • 1 to 2 years of Java development job experience.
  • Academic coursework and projects in Java and XML
  • Experience development console-based software applications and the use of text-based configuration files.
  • Exposure to open source software frameworks/products.
  • Experience with XML transformation technologies such as XSLT and Saxon.
  • Solid understanding of relational database modeling concepts.
  • Experience with Oracle, MySQL, Apache Derby, or a similar relational database.
  • Solid Object Oriented Concept, Design and Design Pattern understanding.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a software development life cycle.
  • Detail oriented team player with superior follow through.

Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all associates and management at MPV.
  • Ability to identify, analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to manage time against strict deadlines.

Environmental/working conditions:

  • Normal busy office environment.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work.
